ACADEMIC MENTORING AS A PANACEA TO EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT

Abstract


Academic mentoring is being recognized today as a powerful and effective tool to fostering better educational outcomes. It is a powerful personal development and empowerment tool. It is an effective way of helping students to progress in their academic careers and it is becoming increasingly popular as its potential benefits are being realized. This paper attempts to examine the origin; theoretical background of mentoring relationships; mentoring relationship, its types and different phases of mentoring as well as benefits of mentoring to both the mentors and mentees. Also dealt in this paper are the problems associated with mentoring programs and the ways to invest in academic mentoring for the growth, progress and success of the mentoring activities in helping students achieve their academic careers.
