Abstract

Highway communication is an inevitable part of any societys road transport and movement culture. Expectedly, it is assumed that road signage communication should be taken seriously by all the members of the public. This study assessed the adherence of road users such as drivers, pedestrians, and traffic enforcers to highway communication; with focus on road users understanding and reaction to road signs and signage communication. The study population was limited to drivers, pedestrians and traffic enforcers in Enugu metroplolis. Indepth Interviews were used to gather data from respondents who were purposively chosen. Findings from the research showed that road users in Enugu State rarely obeyed traffic signs. It was also discovered that most road users in Enugu State dont have basic knowledge of signage communication. It is therefore recommended that there should be enlightenment campaigns which help chart a new course for road users nation-wide.
